Description
18-hole, par 55, 6079-foot course just across the Colorado River south of Fruita. At the foot of the Colorado National Monument, this high desert course lies at an elevation of about 4520 feet. According to Disc Golf Review, it was built in 2011 to host that year's state championships. Holes 1, 2, 3, 17 and 18 play out on a gently sloped and sagebrush-covered plain. Hole 4 curves down and to the right around a cliff, and 5 through 16 zigzag through this lower area. Several holes feature large cottonwood trees, there are a few washes and downed trees, and the Colorado River comes into play in a couple places. There is a considerable hike between 16 and 17, and a friend and I discovered an undocumented challenging par 3, teeing off from the clearing on 4 and throwing back up the rock face to hole number 3. I got a par on my first try! Watch your footing if you don't make it to the top. Bring water and enjoy the views uphill and across the Grand Valley.
